How to Tie a Scarf: Traditional Knot or Bow
Updated: Jul 22

This style of tying a silk scarf works well with a plain t, a shirt open at the neck, an off the shoulder gown, a polo neck in the winter, or a classic blazer.
First take a 90cm silk square and fold into a triangle from one corner to the opposite corner.

Then working your way from the longest (straight) end of the folded scarf to the point, turn the length of the scarf by approximately 2 inches (7cm) at a time.

Keep the fold at 2 inches along the length.
Keep folding until you reach the pointed end.

Folding in this way allows you to keep more elegant and shapely ends to the scarf.

Next, tie around your neck.

At this point, you could either tie in a double knot with scarf ends left long and loose, as above.
Or, tie a bow. Keep slightly loose and off centre for a smart casual look, as per image below.

Or tie the scarf ends around your neck again and secure by knotting the ends or tucking in.
