The Sayyida Collection
Evocative of hazy Mediterranean bays with subtle symbolism, the Sayyida Collection is a contemporary range of textiles that allow glimpses of medieval drama on the high seas.
Inspired by Sayyida al-Hurra, a Moorish noblewoman forced to flee her home in Al-Andalus during the 15th century Reconquista, and who went on to rule Tetouan, Morroco, the collection is designed to be worn in layers, each piece evocative of this irrepressible noblewoman and her people.
Delicate blue silks echo flowing waves that eschewed many an attack; hints of sun-kissed stone archways that once fooled the enemy; the abundant flora of Sayyida’s home, and pattern and colour influenced by the cultural fusion created during this dramatic period in history.
The Sayyida Collection features digital, screen and cyanotype printing, hand-dyeing, and beadwork on silk and fine cotton.
Designed and made in England yet with a global theme these hero designs and supporting pieces work together to bring a little-known tale to life.
